New cases and deaths

New cases 2007

Several major cancers linked to chronic infectious conditions (including stomach and cervix) become less common as countries become economically developed, whereas cancers related to tobacco use and Western patterns of diet, physical inactivity, and reproduction (especially lung and bronchus, breast, and colorectal) increase with economic development.

*Excludes nonmelanoma skin cancer.
Estimates were produced by applying age-specific cancer rates of a defined geographic region from GLOBOCAN 2002 to the corresponding age-specific population for the year 2007 from the United Nations (UN) population projections (2004 revision). Therefore, estimates for world areas do not sum to worldwide estimates.
